The writers’ strike has been going on for two months already, and we as viewers understand the plight of these workers who do need their fair share in all of this. However, the strike has been affecting our television programming, and most of us just don’t like it. Reality TV is taking the world by storm, as if it was an evil genius waiting in the wings for a chance to attack. And attack it did, as now there’s season 5 of The Biggest Loser, which just completed its season 4 run. There’s also The Bachelor, in which Brad remained single and available (we aren’t over it yet) and its new season, as well as its spin-off, The Bachelorette. Most of all, there’s the mother of all reality shows, Survivor, which just finished its China season, and is now launching their Micronesia season. In fact, CBS is already holding open casting calls for the 17th season. There is indeed panic in the reality TV industry.
Yes, it’s true, Survivor began a nationwide search for cat members for the 17th season. They began in Texas yesterday and will soon head to other major cities before finishing off at the end of the month. Fast, you think?
On January 26, the show will hold simultaneous open casting calls in San Diego , CA ; Albany , OR ; Cedar Rapids , IA ; Aurora , IL ; Hattiesburg , MS ; Columbus , GA ; San Francisco , CA and Peoria , IL . Talk about multitasking.
So if at first you don’t get into the reality show, try again. A Michigan resident, Woody Wittenberg, has tried out on every season since the show began.
“Once you have gone so far, you can’t send any more tapes in, they won’t accept them,” Wittenburg told local news station, WLNS. “Now I go to open casting where they can’t throw these tapes away because these other people on these tapes, so maybe they will keep seeing my face and think this guy is serious.”
Now that’s what you call persistence. For those who don’t want to go through all the hassle he’s gone through, you could log on to the official Survivor website and fill out the audition form. You could also send in audition tapes.
